BOTTISHAM v. BURWELL CHALLENGE SHIELD

The two gardening clubs have been holding this bi-annual competition (home and away) since 1981, competing for the Bottisham & Burwell Gardening Challenge Shield. Members bring along their best offerings – anything grown in the garden, greenhouse or house, fruit, flower, houseplant, or vegetable, exotic or native. The best five entries from each club are selected and an independent judge awards up to 20 points for each entry. This is a light-hearted  friendly competition, with a quiz and buffet supper.

2010 COMPETITION

The competition for the Challenge Cup was  held on  Monday 14 June at the Burwell HQ (Trinity Church,  High Street). There was a good attendance from Bottisham, with some very high quality exhibits. After a quiz and buffet, Richard Ayres MBE judged the exhibits and results were as follows:

2009 COMPETITION

Part one of this year's competition was  held in Bottisham on 8 June, when Bottisham won by a margin of 1 point (Bottisham 84, Burwell 83).

The second  leg of the 2009 competition was then held  in Burwell on Monday 14 September, with a good turnout again from  both clubs and many  and varied  entries. Burwell was declared the  overall winner with a final points total of 86 to  Bottisham's 82

The overall score at the end of the 2009 competition is therefore  equal - Bottisham 15 wins and Burwell 15 wins - with all to play for in 2010.
