JUDGE'S REPORT - BOTTISHAM IN BLOOM 2010

Judging took place in July during the very hot weather, which was just the opposite of the previous year when we experienced several heavy downpours.  It was a challenge for all gardeners to keep their gardens, pots and baskets from looking very withered this year.

Nevertheless, the Judges –Bob Rickett, Sandra San Vicente, Ruth Easthope and Tony & Eve Cassidy saw many lovely gardens, baskets and containers and found it difficult to decide on the winners. There are many gardens that well kept and attractive, and the judges gave commendation again to a mixed flower and vegetable garden in Tunbridge Close; several extremely well tended gardens in Lode Road; around the Park Estate; a side garden in the High Street and some lovely pots and baskets in Arber Close, Rowley Gardens, and Stocks Close, to name but a few.

The judges were invited to view outstanding back gardens in Willow Way which are not visible to the passerby and unfortunately don‘t fall into the category of front garden. These were really delightful to see with their eye catching blooms and tended lawns. The gardening club will be looking at ways of including these gardens in future year’s competitions and to see how these might be accessible for viewing by the public.

After some deliberation, tea and cake, the judges made their decisions. The winners are as follows:

Best Front Garden

1st     14 Jenyn’s Close (Miss D Jeffrey)

2nd     43 Bell Road (Mr and Mrs G Pearson)

3rd     16 Jenyn’s Close (Mr C Cook)
