JUDGE'S REPORT - BOTTISHAM IN BLOOM 2009

Judging took place early August and unfortunately we experienced several heavy downpours the previous week which watered the gardens and filled the water butts nicely, but did very little for flowers such as geraniums and hanging baskets, where the wind and heavy rain had taken their toll.

Nevertheless, the Judges – Rosemarie Hill, Bob Rickett, and Sandra San Vicente – saw many lovely gardens, baskets and containers and found it difficult to decide on the winners. There are many gardens that are consistently well kept and attractive, and the judges gave commendation to a recently planted garden in St Peter’s Field; an attractive mixed flower and vegetable garden in Tunbridge Close; several extremely well tended gardens in Lode Road; a side garden in the High Street; a bungalow garden in Bell Road; a rockery garden on the corner of the High Street and Tunbridge Lane; and a beautiful walled display of bright red geraniums in Beechwood Avenue.

The judges were invited to view gardens in Willow Way which are not visible to the passerby and unfortunately don‘t fall into the category of front garden. These were really delightful and so well designed, and the green-fingered owners must be very proud of the results.

After some deliberation, tea and cake, the judges made their decisions. The winners are as follows:

Best Front Garden

1st - 22 Tunbridge Close

2nd - 60 Lode Road

3rd - 22 Downing Close

Best Hanging Basket/Container

1st – 75 High Street

2nd- 32 Lode Road
